Assessing the Health Threat of Outdoor Air: Lung Cancer Risk of Particulate Matter Exposure
نویسنده
چکیده
Assessing the Health Threat of Outdoor Air Lung Cancer Risk of Particulate Matter Exposure Outdoor air pollution is made up of particulate matter (PM) and hundreds of chemicals from natural sources and human-related activities. In October 2013 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reviewed more than 1,000 research articles and formally designated outdoor air pollution in general and PM in particular as human carcinogens. A new meta-analysis of epidemiological research in this issue of EHP now estimates the lung cancer risk associated with PM exposure.

Introduction: One of the harmful pollutants in the indoor environments is particulate matters. Particles smaller than 2.5 micrometer in diameter that are suspend in the industrial environments air are the most deleterious dusts which can cause lung disease and cancer. In present study PM2.5 concentration in the fast-food shops air and its cancer risk for shop workers were assessed. Material ...

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified outdoor air pollution and the particulate matter (PM) in outdoor air pollution as carcinogenic to humans, as based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and experimental animals and strong support by mechanistic studies. The data with important contributions to the evaluation are reviewed, highlighting the data ...

The present study deals with sequential extraction of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) bound trace metals in an industrial area of Firozabad, India. During the study period, daily PM2.5 concentration ranged between 73.49 μg/m3 and 113.26 μg/m3 with poor air quality index of 196.37. In the present study, Ca recorded the highest while Co had the lowest concentration among all analysed metals. Mn, ...

متن کاملImpact of fine particles in ambient air on lung cancer
Recently, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified outdoor air pollution and the particulate matter component of outdoor air pollution as class I carcinogen. Air pollution is consistently associated with lung cancer in epidemiologic and experimental studies. The IARC assessment is specifically designed as hazard identification, and it does not quantify the magnitude...
